A Deeper Path: The Call of Aging

September 8, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$20.00

Traditionally, elders have been the sages, the wise ones, the keepers of the sacred. Contemporary culture’s focus on speed and efficiency marginalizes the role of elders as emissaries of spirit. As a consequence, we often view elderhood simply as a diminishing time of loss. Join us as we explore how we might approach “the third age” as a sacred journey, where new life can be born and thrive.

People are anxious to save up

financial means for old age;

they should also be anxious to

prepare a spiritual means for old age…

Wisdom, maturity, tranquility do not come

all of a sudden when we retire…”’— Abraham Joshua Heschel

          Along with saving money, Reverend Lois Mueller invites us to do inner work in order to prepare for our later years. In this brief introduction to A Deeper Path, we will review the spiritual tasks of aging, the importance of our outlook toward aging and the unique call we are invited into during later years. Please register by September 3rd. Cost: $20, but please don’t let lack of funds deter you. If you need to pay at the door, call the office at 707-578-2121 to register.

Lois received a Masters of Social Work with an emphasis in Aging that led to a season as a geriatric social worker. In midlife she attended Pacific School of Religion and was ordained in the United Church of Christ, a progressive Protestant denomination.  For a number of years, she served as the pastor of Plymouth Jazz & Justice UCC in Oakland. Now retired, she is returning to her passion of calling elders to their identity as Blessers.
