Art Opening: Nature Manifests – Up Close and At Distance

September 13, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us to welcome Irina Miller and her artwork to the Journey Center Art Gallery.

Stop by to enjoy food and beverages in addition to hearing from the artist about her work.

In my art I like to capture the beauty of nature. I am inspired by the magical quality of the light touching an object or a landscape. In my painting, I attempt to capture the significance of the moment exploring color, light and shadow, and express them on the paper with various mediums and techniques. While painting, I am looking at nature as God’s perfect creation. I ponder and contemplate it… then I gently put it on the paper or canvas.

Most of my paintings are landscapes, still life and flowers. The objects of my artwork usually dictate what kind of medium I use. My favorite mediums are watercolor and pastel. I like watercolor for its transparency and fluidity, and pastel- for its vibrancy and simplicity. Sometimes I mix them to achieve a desired result. As an artist, I work to develop paintings that elicit positive emotions.

I have been living in Sonoma county for over 20 years, originally from Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I have always been interested in art and as a child I attended an art school. In 1980 for 2 years studied to be a designer. I earned a MA degree in Theater Directing and Drama from Tashkent State Institute of Art and Culture in 1986. Moving to the United States, I had to change my career, but still enjoyed painting as my hobby. I have exhibited my work regionally and received many awards for my art. This is my first personal art exhibit.
