Advent Gathering

December 16, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

WEEK THREE

“You hardly knew how hungry you were to be gathered in, to receive the welcome that invited you to enter entirely…” (from A Blessing Called Sanctuaryby Jan L. Richardson)

Misunderstandings, accusations, name calling, scandal, betrayal. These have become all too familiar in modern times, especially in the realm of politics, but does their familiarity make them any easier to bear? It takes skill to grow a thicker skin while maintaining a soft heart. Sometimes we give up and retreat.

Can you imagine the scandal that Mary faced as the news of her pregnancy spread? The whispers, the looks, the rejection? What a relief to her, then, to receive Elizabeth’s blessing, and confirmation that she was not alone; indeed, was part of something much bigger than her circumstances.

On this third week of Advent we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus by considering the deep sense of identity imparted to Mary through Elizabeth’s joyous greeting, and the longing in our own hearts for meaning and significance. Join us as we reflect on the blessing of BELONGING with seasonal music, contemplative readings, and prayerful meditation.

Special music provided by Mike Van Dordrecht
